Explain the style or difference between the authors of the two articles dealing with the Black Plague.

  1. I think that the first story is more about just the black plague. In the second story it was more about what happened to the economy and society. one thing that supports this is that in the story she says " Agriculture was also in disarray." In the first story the author shows mainly about the black plaque itself, one thing that shows this is that she tells you what happens when you have the black plague. IN my opinion I like the first story better, because it gave better detail and visual.

  2. In the first story I liked how he put words in like clinging and intense sentences like "Even the houses or clothes could kill."and some of the pictures where so easy to tell what it was about unlike in the second story but in the second story it was really factual it said that the plague killed villages so I like them both because I like informational stories and I also like a good realistic story.

  3. The author in the first article explained about the symptoms of the black plague in the background and in the second it told me about what was happening before the plague and what people did for work. I liked the first author better because her descriptions were better as seen on page 380. For example "The rootless phantom which has no mercy." Or "The sickness clinging to their very bones."

  4. One of the differences between the authors of the two articles dealing with the black plague is that the first one was more about the Black Plague. The second author mainly focused on the economy. The first one made us think a lot because of the metaphors she used. Like "We see death coming into our midst like black smoke" she used more creative words then just saying they couldn't get away from it. Then the second author is all plan and broad. She tells you exactly what you want to know with out having have to think about it. I honestly like the first one better because of how creative she was about the piece she wrote. Because workers were scarce, peasants who survived the plague now had a bargaining power for the first time. She could of came up with some creative way to say that. Like now the poor and homeless had wanted what they always dreamed of POWER.

  5. The author in the first reading had more info on the black death. She also used better word choice like when she says "Even the houses or cloths of the victims could kill," when she said that it was like you understood how dangerous the black death was. The author of the second reading said exactly what she was trying to tell us but did not include many details about the black death. Even though she really didn't talk about the black death as much she still did set the stage by giving us some details about the black death and telling us how the economy was effected and told us how life was back then as well.

  6. you fell like your right there almost telling the story. "We could see death coming our way." You can just get the mood. One the other hand you have A WORLD TURNED UPSIDE DOWN, and she wanted to get the point through to you that she had mood too, but it was different in a way because she said what some good effects were on it, like the inventing of the printing press, and advance in technology! She did mention how it spread, but more so what happened to Europe, and how to the people reacted to it.

  7. The difference between the two articles is that in the story Like Black Smoke by Diana Childless tells me more about how the Black Plague got started and tells me the symptoms that you can get. It also tells me how it spread. In A World Turned Upside Down by Mary Cowan she just tells us the basics. Like how many people were killed and all of the things that were hard to do because of the Black Plague.

  8. I think that both authors had there own style to write about the black plague. The first story that we read was very descriptive. She was descriptive because she used very good showing sentences like "We see death coming into our midst like black smoke" she does a good job of getting a picture of the black plague in your head. The other author seems to be more factual in her story and not use very many interesting senescence to get the reader in. If you are looking for a fun and factual story on the black plague read the story by Diana Childress and if you want one more factual read the story by Mary Cowman.

  9. I think that the difference between the authors was what that the first one we read had more for you to think about with the feeling of the article, I think she is also more descriptive than the second author, she has shown this by saying, "the sickness was clinging to their very bones." and by using "rootless phantom which has no mercy." these both show that she had more detail and explained what the black plague did to people. However, in the second one we read the author only talked about what the black plague did to their economy. She was kind of boring in a way. The reason I say this is because she said in her article she said "the black plague killed 25 million people." Well, how did it kill 25 million people, how did it spread. If someone who reads this and needs the information, they will not know what the black plague did to people, or how it spread.

  11. I liked the first story we read because the author gave lots of descriptive words and phrases and talked more about the Black Plague than the second author did. For example the first author used great phrases like "plague bombs" or in the sentence, The earliest evidence found of the Black Death lies in a cemetery in what was once a prosperous town near lake Issy-Kul. Like the word "prosperous" was a descriptive word she used. The author also said more about the Black Death and where it spread and how it go and affected people. For example how she told about the bloody cough and painful swellings.
